Joan E. Keegan, BFA
Joan E. Keegan was born in Montreal, with her ancestral roots in Ireland. Keegan is a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal with a Baccalaureate of Fine Arts. Joan is an artist with a clear passion for painting, drawing and printmaking. These works have evolved through many years of experience, learning and travel.
Many of her works are of an intuitive nature and depict our environment and the effects of the urban sprawl on the spirit of Mother Earth. Some of her works of the inner city are large, 'symbols of power' – industrial/architectural images; male/patriarchal domains. They are testimonies of human nature being ruled by the spirits, the eternal struggle of our nature to survive.
Joan has travelled throughout Canada, the United States, Tuscany, Italy, London, England, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico and the North and South Islands of New Zealand and has lived in Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver. Her travels and places she has lived, have influenced her latest works with a return to landscapes, somewhat abstract, but still with nature as the theme.
Keegan is a member of several art societies in Ontario and a former member of Action Arts Committee of Pratt & Whitney Canada Inc.
Joan has exhibited in several group and solo exhibitions, as well as Artists' Studio Tours. Her paintings are in private collections all over North America.
Since moving to The Beach, Toronto, Joan continues to paint in her studio, after a lengthy stay in New Zealand. She is involved with other artists both in Ontario and Montreal and was represented by Byng Studio Gallery in Bowmanville, ON.
